PMI® - Precision Metalsmiths, Inc.Specializing in small parts
Our promise to you
When you come to PMI with your casting needs, we will work with you to help you determine whether investment casting is the best blueprintprocess to meet your objectives. The first step to keeping costs in line is finding the right fit between your parts needs and the process for making them. If you choose investment casting, we are committed to offering you the best value for your money.

We offer our half-century of engineering expertise with every quality part we sell. Our sales engineers and field sales agents are always willing to demonstrate how we can offer top quality parts at total lower cost.

In our history, we have cast over 40,000 production and experimental parts for use in a myriad of industries. OEM manufacturers of hand and power tools; medical furniture, equipment, and instruments; firearms; processing machinery for printing, food preparation, pulp and paper, and textiles; sporting equipment; aerospace applications; and electronics are but a few of the users of investment cast parts.

While many parts we make are for new applications, investment castings still offer a functional, cost-effective alternative to parts currently made by sand casting, fabrication, welding, or other production methods.

PMI Engineering Expertise Our engineering staff is known for its creativity to solve production problems. If a part is designed as an investment casting, we can preserve the part’s intended function while capitalizing on the inherent benefits of investment casting (near net shape, streamlined design, cast-in features, reduced alloy use, etc.) We are willing to share our engineering expertise with customers or potential customers through engineering seminars or one-on-one communication.

Quality For over 50 years, PMI has been known for quality parts. Our thrust toward quality comes from designing in the quality through careful preplanning and continuous process control, as well as by after-cast inspection. Using a spectrograph, we monitor the alloy composition of every melt. We check the dimensional accuracy of the castings using our computerized coordinate machine as well as precision gauges.

Based on your requirements, we can then perform nondestructive testing programs based on the 1984 MIL-STD-2175 for radiographic, magnetic particle, and fluorescent penetrant inspection. By using a variety of tests, we can ensure that the castings meet the NDT classification you specify.

Research and Development An important tradition at PMI, our Research and Development department assists manufacturing in monitoring, defining, and documenting the process. Before any material, system, or procedure is incorporated on the shop floor, R&D thoroughly tests it for compatibility with our system. If any problems arise during production, R&D assists our process engineering team in solving them. In an ever-changing world, R&D also strives to maintain the PMI history of innovation and industry leadership. Developments such as our recently released investment material for solid mold casting serve to assist us in making better castings now while contributing to the industry at large.
